geoAMPS presents mobile technology advantages

Attendees at the 2014 International Right of Way (IRWA) Young Professionals Symposium enjoyed the presentation given by Jenelle Cooper, Senior Product Specialist, and Brock Hicks, Business Development Manager, of geoAMPS.

Their presentation at the June 21 symposium, held in conjunction with the 60th annual IRWA International Education Conference in Hartford, Conn., focused on advances ofmobile technology and how it has impacted the right of way industry.

‘We talked about the different capabilities that are available, such as storing agent notes on the progress of negotiations, storing landowner contact information and seeing live statuses of projects through bar charts,” Brock said.

“We discussed uploading photos and associating them with a property by GPS coordinates tied to that photo,” Jenelle said. “We showed how easy it is to find specific documents, tracts and landowners within seconds.”

Brock and Jenelle reviewed the previous methods of conducting a right of way project and how processes have improved by utilizing a centralized database, standardized processes and a Web-based platform that enables the use of mobile technology, detached/offline capabilities and GIS.

“We performed an exercise, with the help of volunteers from the audience, of how easy it is to find information by using mobile technology, with one person holding physical documents and another using a mobile app,” Brock said.
