geoAMPS presentation to Virginia IRWA

Yogesh Khandelwal, President and Chief Executive Officer of geoAMPS, gave a presentation to the International Right of Way Association (IRWA) Old Dominion Chapter 52 of Virginia on March 15.

At the invitation of the IRWA chapter, Yogesh discussed how advances in technology and computer software make it possible to conduct even the most complex right of way projects quicker and more efficiently, greatly reducing the costs involved in right of way acquisition and making it possible to increase the amount of projects that can be accomplished.

An engineer with a diverse background in technology across various industries, Yogesh has more than 15 years of experience in database customization and implementation. The company he founded, geoAMPS, helps organizations implement standard processes, bringing efficiency and optimization within project and asset management.

Yogesh provided a historical background of right of way acquisition, discussing the limitations of the process of acquiring right of way in the past and the possibilities that exist today through the implementation of Web-based software technology. He discussed how Web-based software supported by a centralized database offers many benefits to right of way organizations. Those benefits include a single access point for all project information; the ability to immediately update the project file; the use of geographical information system (GIS) mapping to improve efficiency of identifying and acquiring right of way; and the ability of right of agents in the field to use mobile devices to review project information, workflows and quickly update the status of right of way negotiations.

Old Dominion Chapter 52 members play a vital role in community, regional and national improvements, highways, flood control projects, public utility construction projects, pipelines, railroads and other public development activities. Members take part in regular local, regional and national meetings, classes and events.
The chapter met on March 15 at the Holiday Inn Interstate 64 West End at Richmond, Va.
IRWA has nearly 10,000 members throughout the United States, Canada and in South Africa. Old Dominion Chapter 52 is one of 83 IRWA chapters.
